Beginner Wheel Throwing Class Details
Discover the simple joy of creating with your hands.
This course is designed especially for beginners and gives you the chance to slow down, explore something new, and enjoy the process of learning. Held at Beldari Pottery Studio in the heart of Echuca’s historic port area. You’ll be supported every step of the way by Chris, our patient and friendly instructor, who will be there to guide you as you build your skills and confidence at the wheel.
What You’ll Learn
Getting Started: Get to know the wheel, the feel of the clay, and make your very first cylinder.
Building Confidence: Explore shaping techniques and create your first small bowl as your skills start to take shape.
Expanding Your Skills: Try your hand at making a plate and see how far you’ve come.
Bringing It Together: Recap what you’ve learned, troubleshoot any challenges, and create a piece that’s completely your own.
After your pieces are fired, you’ll return for a bonus glazing session to add colour and personality—bringing your work to life and finishing your collection.

Location: Beldari Pottery Studio, 495 High Street Echuca.
Session Times:
Wednesdays 18:30 to 20:30
Sundays 13:30 to 15:30
Cost: $295.00
Duration: Four weeks (one 2-hour session each week).
Class Size: Small groups, so you get plenty of guidance.
Included: Clay, tools, glazing, and firing – everything you need. You keep everything you make.
Ages: Suitable for ages 14 and up.
Parking: There’s free on-street parking out the front, as well as around the corner in Heygarth Street. We also have a small carpark behind the studio for your convenience.
What to Bring: A towel (don't worry if you forget, we have spares), a drink bottle, comfy older clothes, and your sense of fun.
Can’t Make a Week? We offer the opportunity for one make-up class if you need to miss a session.

Not at all. You can walk in with zero clay experience. Everything is explained in a simple, easy way, so you can just relax, have fun and enjoy the process.

Classes are 2 hours each week, over a 4 week period on your chosen day/time. Classes are designed to be unrushed and easy to follow. You’ll be guided through wheel throwing basics, with all tools and materials taken care of so you can settle in, create confidently and enjoy the fun of making something real.
Is it suitable for beginners or people who feel nervous?
Absolutely. If you’ve ever thought “I’m not creative,” this is where you gently prove yourself wrong. You’ll feel supported, encouraged and able to take each step with confidence. The whole experience stays simple, fun and pressure-free.
What if I need to miss a class?
Just let us know, we offer the opportunity for one make-up class if you need to miss a session.

Yes, you can take anything you have made home (no extra cost), once your pieces are glazed and have received their final firing, making the whole process simple and convenient. Once they’re ready, you’ll pick them up and feel that spark of pride knowing you created something beautiful with your own hands.
Is parking easy?
Yes — parking is easy. We have on street parking as well as a small carpark at the rear, so you can arrive feeling calm and ready to get creative. Just pull up close to the studio, step inside and slip straight into that fun, confidence-building clay time.
